It started out with Justin leaning against his sliding glass door every night, waiting for the day it would slide open. Every night he would stand there, waiting to hear the sigh and the click of it opening.
This sigh & click never came.
It continued when Justin would sit on the bench out side of his house hour after hour, pulling the petals off of daisies until the neighbors crowded around their windows, watching him. Watching the weird kid on a bench in the dead of summer, wearing a giant parka picking petals from daisies and hoping they'd fly away in the wind that never picked up. The boy never came out, never pulled his curtain over an inch to watch him, wonder why he was waiting. Justin would stay until the sun started to fade behind the clouds, causing the clouds to blush and sway.
Justin believed they blushed in hopes to be as beautiful as him.
The boy.
During the days, Justin watched the planes and helicopters fly by. Justin liked the helicopters best, liked the way they buzzed above him. It reminded him of the noises the cards made when playing solitare on the computer.
Sometimes, as Justin walked away while the sky was growing dark, he'd look back and see the curtain budge just an inch. Just to see if he left.
Sometimes, Justin wouldn't turn around in fear that the curtain wouldn't open slightly when he needed it to most.
Justin liked the way the helicopters flew by, not as fast as the airplanes but not particularly slowly, either. He liked watching them as he pulled the small white petals from the delicate daisies planted by the boys house. Sometimes he left a single daisy on the porch. The daisy was always gone by the next day.
Justin wondered whether the boy took it or it just flew away.
Justin would sit on his bench, picking each petals preciously. He always hoped the petals would fly away, but there was never any wind.
One day, the boy came out.
When he did, a helicopter flew by.
The petals flew away.
the boys kissed him as they did.
[hello, helicopter.]
